Remodels

Tandon Interiors provides interior remodeling in the greater Seattle area to create refreshed spaces that balance form and function.

At Tandon Interiors, we focus on whole room or full home renovations – which involves updating the hard finishes in a room and, if needed, its layout. We find it’s always a good idea to start working with an interior designer early in the process of a remodel. This helps creates a strong foundation to build an impactful design.

Remodels require close collaboration between the design and construction team – as designers, we conceptualize drawings, but sometimes those plans may need to be tweaked during construction. In this case, we brainstorm alternate options with the general contractor to find a solution that either maintains or enhances the planned design.

Kitchen Remodeling

Kitchens are one of our favorite rooms to design – for good reason! They’re the heart of the home, setting the tone for the overall look and feel of a space. We take into account the design of other rooms, including your home’s exterior, to create a design that seamlessly blends with those spaces. If the budget allows, we create renderings that provide a photorealistic representation of your kitchen in its end state.

One of the main decisions we make in a kitchen remodel is the cabinetry – we usually weigh between two options: semi-custom or custom cabinetry. Custom cabinetry allows you to get the best size fit (down to 1/32”), along with limitless options for colors and door styles. With the semi-custom route, your options are much more limited. That said, semi-custom is more cost-effective compared to custom cabinetry so we take into consideration budget when deciding which route to take.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Should we remodel in phases or all rooms at once?

There are benefits to either approach, but our suggestion is to work on all rooms at once. The overall turnaround time for your project will be shorter, and your home will be ready to be enjoyed sooner! That said, depending on your lifestyle and project scope, it may be better to start with a floor at a time, then decide whether to expand from there. We dive into this at our initial meeting.

Q: What should I budget for my remodel?

This really varies depending on your projects’ scope and size of the room. It’s important to align on budget before starting a project to ensure we spend time efficiently, sourcing materials and furniture that will work within the budget.

For furniture, we suggest a minimum budget of $9k per room, for furniture, shipping, handling, taxes, receiving and delivery. For remodels, its best to get an idea of the construction cost first, then align on the project budget from there.

One consideration to account for when determining budget is to think through how important the quality of materials and furniture are to you. Generally speaking, there is a relationship between the price of an item, its quality, and its longevity. The higher the price, the better the quality, the longer it lasts.

Q: How long will my remodel take?

Our goal is always to complete projects as soon as possible, but the process of designing a home can take time. On average, remodels take around 6-7 months. Furnishing projects have a shorter turn around, usually between 4-5 months. Shipping lead time, scope, and contractor availability are factors that usually affect overall turn-around time.

If you have a firm deadline for your remodel, it’s good for us to know upfront so we can assess how to best plan the design and construction schedule to work within that timeframe.

Q: Can items ship directly to my home?

Our process is set up to create a hassle-free experience for you. By shipping furniture and other items through a receiver, we’re able to inspect them ahead of time to ensure they’re in good condition to deliver to you. We ship smaller items to our office to inspect, then hold them until we install your project. Damages are rare, but can occur, so this allows us to efficiently manage a replacement for you. Select items – such as window treatments and any hard finishes – are usually shipped directly to your home, to be on hand for the installer to use.
